  • •Profumo Affair.....
  • Born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, England, Christine Keeler was brought up by her mother and stepfather in two converted railway carriages in the Berkshire village of Wraysbury. At the age of 15, she found work as a model at a dress shop in London's Soho. At 17, she gave birth to a son after an affair with 'Jim', an African-American sergeant from Lakenheath Air Force base. She discovered she was pregnant only after he had returned to the United States,

That summer, Keeler left Wraysbury, staying briefly in Slough with a friend before heading for London. She initially worked as a waitress at a restaurant on Baker Street and there met Maureen O’Connor, a girl who worked at Murray’s Cabaret Club in Soho. She introduced Keeler to the owner, Percy Murray, who hired her almost immediately as a topless showgirl. While at Murray's she met Dr. Stephen Ward. Soon the two were living together with the outward appearance of being a couple, but according to her, it was a platonic "brother and sister" type of relationship. In July 1961, Ward introduced her to John Profumo, the British Secretary of State for War, at a pool party at Cliveden, the Buckinghamshire mansion owned by Lord Astor. Profumo entered into an affair with Keeler, not realising that she was also sleeping with Yevgeny Ivanov, a naval attaché at the embassy of the Soviet Union.

The affair was terminated by the government’s Cabinet Secretary, Sir Norman Brook, who spoke to Profumo on the advice of Sir Roger Hollis, the head of MI5. On 9 August 1961, Profumo wrote to Keeler advising her he could no longer see her.

In the 1989 film about the Profumo Affair entitled Scandal, actress Joanne Whalley portrayed Keeler. At the height of the Profumo Affair in 1963, Keeler sat for a portrait that became famous. The photoshoot, at a studio on the first floor of Peter Cook's Establishment Club, with Lewis Morley was to promote a film, The Keeler Affair, that was only distributed outside Britain. Keeler had previously signed a contract which required her to pose nude for publicity photos and was reluctant to continue, but the film producers insisted, so Morley persuaded Keeler to sit astride a plywood chair such that whilst technically she would be nude, the back of the chair would obscure most of her body.

At the time, Morley and Keeler were already famous, but the photo propelled the Arne Jacobsen model 3107 chair to stardom. However, the actual chair used was an imitation, with a hand-hold aperture cut out of the back to avoid making it an exact and infringing copy.

    •Magna Carta Signing.....

Magna Carta, also called Magna Carta Libertatum (the Great Charter of Freedoms), is an English legal charter, originally issued in the year 1215. It was written in Latin; its name is usually translated into English as Great Charter. In 1952 the Australian Government purchased a 1297 copy of Magna Carta for £12,500 from King's School, Bruton, England. This copy is now on display in the Members' Hall of Parliament House, Canberra. In January 2006, it was announced by the Department of Parliamentary Services that the document had been revalued down from A$40m to A$15m.

Magna Carta Place is located in Canberra, Australia to the north-west of Old Parliament House. Centrally located in the place is a Magna Carta Monument which was provided as a gift to the people of Australia from the British Government to commemorate the centenary of Federation of Australia. The site was dedicated in 1997 which was the 700th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta by King Edward I of England. A 1297 copy of the Magna Carta, purchased by the Australian government in 1952, one is on display in nearby Parliament House, Canberra. The monument was unveiled by the Prime Minister of Australia John Howard in 2000 prior to the centenary of federation in 2001. Magna Carta Place is located on a semicircular network of roads consisting of King George Terrace, Queen Victoria Terrace and Langton Crescent.

    • Screaming Lord Sutch.....

Screaming Lord Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow, known as Screaming Lord Sutch, born David Edward Sutch (10 November 1940 – 16 June 1999) was an English musician and aspirant politician, and founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Sutch was born at New End Hospital, Hampstead, North West London. In the 1960s, inspired by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, he changed his artist name to Screaming Lord Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow. Despite no connection with the peerage, the deed poll laws of England permitted this. His legal name remained David Edward Sutch. In the 1960s, he stood in parliamentary elections, often as representative of the National Teenage Party. His first was in 1963, when he contested the by-election in Stratford-upon-Avon caused by the resignation of John Profumo. He gained 208 votes. His next was at the 1964 General Election when he stood in Harold Wilson's Huyton constituency. Here he received 518 votes.

He founded the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in 1983 and fought the Bermondsey by-election. In his career he contested over 40 elections, rarely threatening the major candidates, but often getting a respectable number of votes. He was easily recognisable at election counts due to flamboyant clothes. It was after he polled several hundred votes in Margaret Thatcher's Finchley constituency in 1983 that the deposit paid by candidates was raised from £150 to £500. This did little to deter Sutch, who increased the concerts he performed to pay for campaigns. So David Sutch decided to stand against all three major parties in the 1997 General Elections....against John Major, Tony Blair and Paddy Ashdown....AT 500 EACH !!

    • What's Next Hamster Police...?

    • Hi, I am the Minister Of IRONY....! My job is to trawl the vast internet looking for Liberties!!

I'd like to bring your attention to my Ban the Hamster Campaign, Due to the immense carbon footprint they can cause,....!

I was on holiday 50 odd miles from home and it was my daughters birthday. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she replied " I want a hamster dad " to which I replied no problem how hard can it be to get a hamster. We went to the local petshop to buy her a hamster and cage, when she saw the "hamster" of her dreams.....Hammy at 4.99 I thought bargain, cant go wrong, Present sorted for a fiver. So we went to pay for "Hammy" to my absolute amazement "Hammy" could'nt be bought without a utility bill, by which time my daughter and "hammy" were inseparable. So I had to phone her Mother to get a cab to the shop to stay with her and hammy while I drove 50 miles home and 50 miles back with the gas bill?! before we could purchase the hamster. What possible difference could a utility bill make to purchasing a hamster.....so god only knows what my carbon footprint for this hamster was before we had even left the shop. So im starting a Campaign against Hamsters and what they stand for, As they are clearly destroying our enviroment..maybe even the cause of global warming?? Join me in my quest against the hamster!!!!
